The Bali Bible can exclusively reveal that Motel Mexicola is opening its third and largest venue yet, with Motel Mexicola Uluwatu set to welcome guests this July.
After transforming Seminyak's dining scene and bringing its signature fiesta to Canggu, the much-loved Mexican restaurant is now setting its sights on the Bukit Peninsula. But this isn't simply another Motel Mexicola. The newest venue takes inspiration from Baja California, Mexico's rugged Pacific coastline, drawing parallels between its surf culture, dramatic landscapes and laid-back spirit, and that of Uluwatu itself.

"This project was born from a strangely familiar connection between Baja California and Uluwatu," says founder and co-owner Nicolaza Que Pasa. "For me, Baja has always represented a different side of Mexico. Fresh, wild, unpretentious and deeply connected to the ocean."
True to the Mexicola name, the design promises to be every bit as immersive as the menu. Spanning an expansive 2,500-square-metre site, the venue has been designed by long-time collaborator Carlos Cole of Mexico City studio Sensibilidad Applicada, taking cues from Baja's historic Spanish missions. Think sweeping archways, hidden courtyards, handcrafted tiles, fountains and vibrant artwork from Australian artist Brent Smith, creating a space that feels equal parts cantina, casita and late-night dance floor.
When it opens, the venue will accommodate more than 200 diners, eventually expanding to around 350 across multiple dining and entertainment spaces. Expect several bars, an open taqueria and asador, intimate "kissing booths", live music, DJs, and the lively atmosphere Motel Mexicola has become famous for.

The menu is also getting a fresh direction. While favourites from Seminyak and Canggu will remain, Uluwatu introduces a stronger Baja influence under Culinary Director Manuel Santos and Head Chef Manuel Bernal. Fresh seafood will take centre stage alongside hand-pressed tacos, smoked tuna empanadas, prawn aguachile and a dedicated wood-fired asador, where whole snapper, lobster, Australian flank steak and achiote-marinated chicken will be cooked over locally sourced rambutan and coffee wood.
Behind the bar, Margaritas remain the hero, joined by mezcal-forward cocktails, Baja-inspired serves and an extensive collection of Mexican spirits, making it just as much a destination for sunset drinks as it is for dinner.

The opening marks another major addition to Uluwatu's rapidly evolving hospitality scene. Once known primarily for surf breaks and clifftop sunsets, the Bukit Peninsula has quickly become one of Bali's most exciting dining destinations, with internationally recognised restaurants, bars and beach clubs continuing to open across the region.
Motel Mexicola Uluwatu is expected to open this July on Jalan Pantai Bingin, with grand opening celebrations set to follow soon. And if first impressions are anything to go by, this could be the group's most ambitious venue yet.
We'll be bringing you a first look as soon as the doors officially open. Stay tuned!
