Where to Stay in Pererenan: Inside the Terracotta Walls of Further Bali

Pererenan has quietly become one of the most desirable neighbourhoods in Bali.

Once a slower extension of Canggu’s surf scene, it’s now home to some of the island’s most design-forward hospitality, and Further Pererenan sits firmly at the centre of that shift.

If you’re researching where to stay in Pererenan, this boutique hotel represents the area’s next chapter: refined, cohesive and intentionally modern.

Before the architecture even registers, it’s the atmosphere you notice. Couples arriving on scooters in linen. Creators framing shots against terracotta walls. Guests lingering at St. ALi out front as if the entire property operates as one seamless lifestyle space.

Then the design reveals itself.

Terracotta-rendered walls rise against tropical greenery. Light and shadow are used deliberately. Clean architectural lines are softened by texture and warmth. Designed by MORQ, the Italian-Perth studio known for its restrained yet tactile approach, Further Bali feels distinctly grounded in place while speaking to a more global aesthetic.

Check-in is efficient. A cold towel after transit. A subtle signature scent, custom-developed for the property, drifts through dimly lit corridors that feel almost cinematic.

The Garden Suite captures the hotel’s identity instantly. An oversized window frames a private courtyard. An outdoor marble bathtub sits under an open sky. A low built-in bed integrates seamlessly into the architecture itself. Music plays softly through in-room speakers.

The mood is controlled, sensory and seductive.

While we stayed in the Garden Suite, Further offers other room styles depending on how one wants to experience the property. The Pool Suites pair the hotel’s signature terracotta aesthetic with a private plunge pool, king-sized bed and walk-in rain shower, making them ideal for the ones who want easy access to the main building while still enjoying their own private space. Complimentary gym access and free bikes add to the convenience.

For something more elevated, the Penthouse stands out as the most distinctive stay. Think a statement terracotta bathtub, in-room turntable and a more expansive, private feel.

A Boutique Hotel in Pererenan That Feels Cohesive

What separates Further from many boutique hotels in Pererenan is how tightly everything connects. The terracotta render, one of the hotel’s defining features, reportedly requires near-annual reapplication to preserve its finish. It’s a small detail that speaks volumes about commitment to consistency.

Art rotates through collaborations with international creatives. Furniture and decor pieces are available for purchase, and the property blurs the line between hotel, gallery and a curated living space.

Yet it never feels overly precious. The spaces are beautiful, but livable.

Structurally, Further also differs from most hotels in Bali. Rather than operating as a single sealed compound, it follows a diffused-hotel concept, or Albergo Diffuso, spreading its suites and shared spaces across four separate buildings woven throughout the neighbourhood.

Sleep, swim, dine and socialise in different locations, all within walking distance, creating a more integrated relationship with Pererenan itself.

How Further Reflects Pererenan’s Evolution

Pererenan’s identity has shifted in recent years. What was once a quieter surf-adjacent village now sits at the forefront of Bali’s design-led hospitality movement.

Further reflects that shift seamlessly, functioning as more than a hotel and embedding itself into Pererenan’s growing lifestyle scene. St. ALi sits just across the road, around 50 metres from the main building, forming part of a connected precinct the brand is steadily shaping within this pocket of Pererenan. Another adjacent site is already in development, signalling that the Further footprint here is expanding.

Bar Vera delivers one of the strongest dining experiences in the neighbourhood. Guests also receive access to Rite (formerly Wrong) Gym, a high-end wellness space nearby that would otherwise cost around AUD $50 for a day pass.

As a hotel near Pererenan Beach, Further is about a ten-minute walk from the sand, close enough for morning surf checks, far enough to retreat from the overstimulation that parts of Canggu can slip into.

Mornings fall into rhythm easily: coffee by the rooftop pool, sunlight stretching across the terracotta surfaces (a highlight being the pool entryway), and a swim before the day begins.

Dining and Atmosphere That Complement the Stay

Dinner at Bar Vera reinforces the design-conscious ecosystem surrounding the hotel. Refined but relaxed. The potato bread, charcoal chicken and banoffee soufflé stand out during our visit.

Upstairs at Portion, the rooftop restaurant and bar serves as a social extension of the hotel itself. Lighter daytime bites, cocktails and poolside afternoons are the vibe here. The signature Further Mule feels familiar but distinct.

Breakfast is intentionally slow. The staff remembering your coffee order from the previous morning. A simple eggs-and-salmon-on-toast plate enjoyed between swims.

Is Further Bali Worth It?

For travellers searching for the best hotels in Pererenan, Further stands out because it understands what modern luxury actually looks like.

There are no grand gestures. No unnecessary excess. Instead, the focus is on atmosphere, sensory consistency and spatial flow.

It suits couples, while solo travellers will appreciate the calm and walkability. Even small families can be accommodated through flexible room configurations.

But ultimately, Further Pererenan is best suited to those who care about how a place feels.

In many ways, this boutique hotel doesn’t just reflect Pererenan’s evolution; it has helped to define it.
