Bali is filled with unforgettable experiences, but few offer the chance to create something you'll take home forever.

At John Hardy Bali, visitors can step behind the scenes of one of the island's most celebrated jewellery houses through a series of immersive artisan masterclasses. From learning the brand's iconic chain-weaving technique to designing your own bespoke piece, these workshops offer a rare opportunity to experience Balinese craftsmanship first-hand.

For travellers looking beyond the usual itinerary, it's one of the most rewarding jewellery-making workshops in Bali.

What Makes John Hardy's Masterclasses Unique

Born in Bali more than 50 years ago, John Hardy has built its reputation on artisan craftsmanship, sustainability and preserving traditional jewellery-making techniques. Rather than simply showcasing the finished product, the masterclasses invite guests into the creative process itself.

Led by John Hardy's Master Artisans, each experience reveals the skill, patience and precision behind every handcrafted piece. Guests sketch designs, experiment with traditional techniques and gain insight into the heritage that continues to shape the brand today.

Whether you have a passion for jewellery or are simply looking for a unique cultural experience, each workshop offers a deeper connection to Bali's artisan traditions.

Icon Chain Masterclass

Held at the John Hardy Boutique & Gallery in Seminyak, the Icon Chain Masterclass focuses on the brand's signature woven chain, one of its most recognisable designs. Under the guidance of a Master Artisan, guests learn each stage of the intricate weaving process, from forming individual links to weaving, kneading and finishing the chain by hand.

Each participant receives a personalised Icon Chain bracelet engraved with their initials before enjoying a family-style lunch at The Long Table, John Hardy's celebrated Indonesian restaurant located within the boutique.

Immersion Masterclass

For those wanting to experience the complete journey, the Immersion Masterclass takes place at the John Hardy Kapal Bamboo Boutique & Artisan Workshop near Ubud.

Guests are guided through every stage of the jewellery-making process, from concept sketches and watercolour rendering to wax carving, chain weaving and hand finishing. The experience also includes an artisan workshop tour, access to the archives, and lunch inspired by Indonesia's culinary traditions, before returning to Seminyak, with dining and boutique credits included.

Jewelry Masterclasses

The most personalised experience is the Jewelry Masterclass.

Working one-on-one with a Master Artisan, guests design their own bespoke piece of John Hardy jewellery. From the first sketch through to wax carving and chain weaving, every step contributes to a one-of-a-kind creation that is handcrafted and delivered within eight to twelve weeks.

Rather than simply purchasing jewellery, guests leave knowing they've helped create it.

How to Book the John Hardy Masterclasses

The workshops are available by advance reservation and cater to different levels of interest, whether you're curious about traditional craftsmanship or looking for one of Bali's most memorable creative experiences. Reservations are required at least two working days in advance for all masterclasses.

For travellers searching for things to do in Bali beyond beaches and temples, John Hardy's artisan workshops offer something genuinely different. They combine culture, craftsmanship and storytelling in a way that few experiences on the island can, leaving you with not only a deeper appreciation for Balinese artistry, but a lasting keepsake to remember it by.
