Pura Ulun Siwi is a spectacular temple located in Jimbaran. The temple was constructed in the 18th century and has a rich history. The location of the temple is right in the centre of town, but as this area in a mountainous area of Bali, it is a lot cooler which makes this a great place to visit on a typical hot Bali day.The temple is unique for a number of reasons: the first is that unlike other temples which are southward facing, Pura Ulun Siwi faces to the east. In addition to this, devout locals pray while facing the west as opposed to the north which is the case in traditional Balinese Hindu Temples. The reason for this is that the temple’s beginnings can be traced to its primitive beginnings in the early 11th century. Mpu Kuturan, the founder of Ulun Siwi, and a Javanese local followed his native traditions in building the temple.
