Bali, as with most of Indonesia, is positioned directly on top of the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area in which a large amount of seismic activity, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions can occur. As a result, from time to time this activity can interrupt even the most perfectly planned travel experiences.

 

Throughout the later part of 2017, Mt Agung, in East Bali, has shown increasing signs of volcanic activity and in late November 2017, Mt Agung began a small scale eruption that has made been prominently featured in the news media.

 

These kinds of situations can change quickly so it is always a good idea to stay up to date if you are planning on travelling to Bali soon.
