If you are heading to Bali for the first time chances are you will be Kuta bound. A high-intensity stretch of shopping, accommodation, affordable eateries, non-stop nightlife, surfing, and so much more. A low-cost favourite for backpackers and families, Kuta never sleeps. This where you come to get some serious value for your coin. The original tourism hub of Bali - Kuta is home to resorts, hotels and back to back beach bars.

There is nothing low key about Kuta and it’s neighbour Legian. Home to mega malls, crazy crowds, goldfish bowl cocktails, fast food and chaos. People come year after year for the markets, the beach, the clubs and the non-stop party.

Head to Jalan Pantai Kuta with its stretch of food franchises, bars and cafes. Wander the famous sidestreets Poppies Lane I and II and stop for a Pina Colada at Poppies Restaurant that opened in 1973. Or get a custom surfboard made. But for something a little fancier Jalan Kartika Plaza might be worth a visit. Beyond the fast food, Kuta also has some famous eateries like Jamie Oliver’s Eleven, The Hard Rock, the refined Ma - Joly and Feast at Sheraton Bali. Or head to local warungs like Made’s Warung that has been around since 1969. Sunset sessions happen at any of the beach bars  - just look for the jostling tourists.

Don’t miss the outdoor Beachwalk Shopping Centre with cool shops and beach views. Or head to the world famous Bali Surf School on Kuta Beach - a perfect place to learn. Kuta Reef is still considered a top surfing break.

Nestled between Kuta and Seminyak - Legian has the best of both worlds with fewer crowds. With its buzzy stretch of bars, clubs and shops - Legian is a carry on from Kuta but with a slightly ritzier vibe. There are villas, loads of hotels and nightclubs like Skygarden all staggering distance away.  During the day you can shop, enjoy the chilled vibes of Double Six Beach or learn to surf at The Rip Curl School of Surf. Or if you like thrills and spills, swim-up bars and a day in the sun. Spend a day slip slip sliding at Waterbom Bali and finish it off at nearby Discovery Mall.
