    Barong is a lion-like creature and character in the mythology of Bali, Indonesia. He is the king of the spirits, leader of the hosts of good, and enemy of Rangda, the demon queen and mother of all spirit guarders in the mythological traditions of Bali. The battle between Barong and Rangda is featured in Barong dance to represent the eternal battle between good and evil

    In Balinese mythology, the good spirit is identified as Banas Pati Raja. Banas Pati Raja is the fourth "brother" or spirit child that accompanies a child throughout their life, which is a similar concept to guardian angels. Banas Pati Raja is the spirit which animates Barong. A protector spirit, he is often represented as a lion. The Barong is often portrayed accompanied by two monkeys. Barong is portrayed as a lion with red head, covered in white thick fur, and wearing gilded jewelry adorned with pieces of mirrors. The shape of lion Barong is somewhat similar to a Pekingese dog. The origins of the Barong are far a back in time and quite uncertain. Its origins could be from animist'cults, before Hinduism appeared, when villagers still believed in the supernatural protective power of animals

    The Batuan temple is considered as the oldest temple in Bali Island. This temple was designed with Balinese ornaments and the roof was made from the fiber of the coconut tree with black color. The temple location is strategic, which is on the side of the main road that connected Denpasar to Ubud. For over than a thousand of year, Batuan has transformed into the artist and craftsmen village, old legend, and also mysterious stories.

    The Batuan temple was built in the year of 944 Isaka or 1020 AD. Almost 1000 years old, this temple can be categorized as Puseh temple according to the concept of “Tri Kahyangan or Tri Murti”. This is also makes this temple as the oldest temple in Bali island.

    There are so many monkey forest in Bali,with same type of monkey Balinese long tail monkey,in English callled Macaque.There are about 600 monkeys living this monkey forest,and diveded into 5 groups: in front of themain temple.Michelin,eastern,central and cemeteries.Each group consist of 100-120 monkeys.because of the considerable population,the confilct between groups of monkey cannot avoid.This type of primate is active during the day ana rest at night.The pregnancies of female monkey are about 6 months and generally 1 infant is born.Very rarely are twin. Monkey's baby stays with their mother for about 10 months and thereafter will be weaned to live independently.
